The Panther Valley volleyball team captured the championship of the Ephrata Invitational Tournament on Saturday.
In other highlights, the Northern Lehigh boys soccer team snapped a long winless streak, and the Palmerton golf team remained unbeaten.
VOLLEYBALL
Panther Valley
at Ephrata Invitational
Panther Valley defended its championship in the Ephrata Invitational Tournament.
The Panthers were perfect on the day, sweeping through pool play with a 10-0 record, before defeating Elco in the semifinals, and Lancaster Catholic in the finals.
The Panthers got several outstanding performances during the tournament. Leading the way was Jenna Dubosky (seven aces, 35 kills, 41 assists, 12 digs). Also playing well were Erika Dubosky (nine aces, 23 kills, 3 blocks, 17 digs), Olivia Dacey (six aces, 26 kills, 18 digs) and Lyddia Malaska (five aces, eight kills, 14 digs).
Saucon Valley-Lehighton
Lehighton posted a 25-15, 25-27, 25-14, 25-21 non-league win over Saucon Valley.
Alyssa Frey had a strong all-around match for the Indians with 23 assists, 11 digs, five kills and four aces. Sophia Salerno followed with 15 digs, 10 kills and four aces. Allison Reph (13 digs), Hailey Miller (16 digs, three aces) and Danielle Miller (five aces, four kills) also contributed to the victory.
Jim Thorpe-Northwestern
Jim Thorpe recorded a 25-12, 25-11, 25-18 non-league victory over Northwestern.

BOYS SOCCER
Lehighton-No. Lehigh
Josh Sollar’s goal with 2:34 left in the second overtime lifted Northern Lehigh to a 1-0 non-league victory over Lehighton.
It was the first victory for the Bulldogs in over two years.
The Indians held a 20-7 edge in shots, while the Bulldogs held the advantage in corners, 7-4.
Bulldogs’ keeper Logan Dyer finished with 20 saves, while the Indians’ Randy Bongozorno made six saves.
Northern Lehigh moves to 1-5 on the season, while Lehighton slips to 0-4.
Tamaqua-Palmerton
Jonny Perloni’s hat trick sparked Palmerton to a 7-3 non-league victory over Tamaqua.
Nic Singleton, Josh Long, Corlan Wood and Nick Papay also scored for the Bombers. Connor Russo had three assists, while Singleton added two assists and both Perloni and Long had one apiece.
Ian Davis, Ryne Fisher and Tyler Steigerwalt accounted for the Blue Raiders’ goals.
Sch. Haven-Jim Thorpe
Alex Putt’s late second-half goal lifted Jim Thorpe to a 3-2 win over Schuylkill Haven.
Chris Condly and Jack Morris also scored goals for the Olympians.
Thorpe goalie Jacob Geiser made seven saves.
Northwestern-Kutztown
Northwestern blanked Kutztown for a 3-0 non-league victory.
Luke Bryan led the Tigers with two goals, while Seth Brady added a single score. Jeff Garcia was credited with two assists.
FIELD HOCKEY
No. Lehigh-Saucon Valley
Saucon Valley ran away with a 7-1 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.
Haile Krasenics scored the Bulldogs’ lone goal.
Camryn Zavacky led the Panthers with two goals and two assists, while Emerson Shauger chipped in with two goals.
NL keeper Kendell Heiney finished with 15 saves, while the Panthers’ Grace Albano made five.
Palmerton-Pen Argyl
Emily Baumgardt scored the game’s lone goal as Palmerton posted a 1-0 Colonial League victory over Pen Argyl.
The Bombers’ Emma Christman was credited with the assist.
Shannon Dougherty recorded the shutout in goal, making three saves.

Matti Hyland’s first-half goal was all Pleasant Valley needed to score a 1-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over Freedom.
The Bears held a 12-11 edge in shots.
PV goalie Emma Strohl recorded nine saves to record the shutout.
GIRLS SOCCER
Jim Thorpe-Blue Mountain
Kaydence Oakley scored with 5:55 left in the second overtime to lift Blue Mountain to a 2-1 Schuylkill League win over Jim Thorpe.
Oakley also opened the game’s scoring with a first-half goal.
The Olympians’ Lauren LeKites knotted things up with a goal with 4:35 left in regulation.
Thorpe goalie Kate Bos posted seven saves, while the Blue Eagles’ Emily Peleschak finished with nine.
Tamaqua-Lehighton
Tamaqua knocked off Lehighton for a 2-0 Schuylkill League victory.
Emma Kuczynski led the Blue Raiders with a goal and an assist, while Jamie Zuber also scored a goal.
Blue Raiders’ goalie Baylee Reinhardt made eight saves to record the shutout. Indians’ keeper Alyssa Myers made 16 saves.
No. Lehigh-Bangor
Bangor rolled to a 6-1 Colonial League win over Northern Lehigh.
Sara Wilk recorded a hat trick for the Slaters, while Emily Ohland added two goals.
Shaina Mazzocca accounted for the Bulldogs’ lone goal.
Bulldogs’ keeper Erica Detweiler finished with 25 saves.
GIRLS TENNIS
Jim Thorpe-PM West
Jim Thorpe blanked Pocono Mountain West, 5-0.
The OIympians’ Christy McLean, Kaitlyn O’Neil and Trista Gehris dominated singles’ play, losing a combined total of just six games in the match.
Jim Thorpe improved to 8-1 on the season.
