Rally Day
St. John’s Lutheran Church, South Avenue, will open its new Sunday school year with a Rally Day program on Sept. 8. The program will begin at 9:15 a.m. The guest speaker for the morning will be Petty Officer 1st Class Ralph “Puzzy” Clay II, who served in Afghanistan with the U.S. Navy. He will share some age-appropriate stories with the children. Members of the congregation are also invited to attend the program.
The Sunday school has purchased 100 ELCA prayer books made for service men and women. As part of the morning activities, the children and congregation members who attend will try to make 100 bookmarks to be inserted in the prayer books to be sent to our troops overseas.
In addition, the world hunger drive will commence and the banks will be distributed to the children. The children will then be promoted to their new classes. The teaching staff will be installed during the 10:30 a.m. worship service.
