The Northwestern boys and Pleasant Valley girls soccer teams started their seasons on a successful note Friday.

The Tigers blanked East Stroudsburg North, while the Bears rolled past Pocono Mountain West.

BOYS SOCCER

Northwestern-ES North

Northwestern received goals from four different players to gain a 4-0 non-league victory over East Stroudsburg North in its season opener.

Jason Blaine, Matthew Renner, Riley Shafer and Luke Bryan all scored first-half goals for the Tigers, who finished with a 12-0 advantage in shots.

The Timberwolves’ Nick Paredes made eight saves.

Catasauqua-No. Lehigh

Catasauqua kept host Northern Lehigh off the scoreboard to gain a 3-0 Colonial League victory.

The Roughies, who led 1-0 at the half, received unassisted goals from Damian DiPaolo, Joseph Merkel and Derek Troxell.

GIRLS SOCCER

PM West-Pleasant Valley

Rachel Baez and Larissa Mulligan both scored a pair of goals to help Pleasant Valley cruise to a 9-2 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Pocono Mountain West.

The Bears, who outshot their opponent by a 25-5 margin and held a 7-0 advantage at the half, also received a goal and an assist from Alexa Pridham and Kaylee Sanchez. Other PV players with goals included Teah Cardoza, Trinity Treulieb and Jenny Rae Schneider.

Aurora Cruci and Rylee Robinson each contributed two assists, while Danielle DiMarco and Luci Mesce both added a helper.

No. Lehigh-Catasauqua

Northern Lehigh dropped a 3-2 non-league contest to Catasauqua in its season opener.

Briana Ojeda and Shaina Mazzocca scored goals for the Bulldogs, who trailed 2-0 at halftime. Emily Hunsicker assisted on Mazzocca’s tally.

The Roughies received a pair of goals from Kaylee Weidaw and 12 saves from goalie Madison Hicks.

Nolehi keeper Erica Detweiler stopped nine shots.

Whitehall-Pleasant Vy.

Whitehall took three of the four doubles matches to gain a 4-3 victory over Pleasant Valley.

The Bears gained straight-set wins in singles play from Julia Polak and Rebecca Makredes.
