Palmerton Movie in the Park is Wednesday
The Concourse Club of Palmerton invites the community to Palmerton’s fifth annual Movie in the Park. “Up,” the 2009 Academy Award-winning Animated Feature, is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in the borough park.
“Up” features the adventures of an elderly widower named Carl Fredricksen (voiced by Ed Asner) and an earnest boy named Russell (Jordan Nagai). By tying thousands of balloons to his house to escape urban development, Carl sets out to fulfill his dream to see South America and complete a promise made to his late wife, Ellie. What Carl doesn’t realize is that an unwitting stowaway, Russell, is aboard. Their escapade is sure to delight viewers, alongside state-of-the-art animation, a unique storyline, and an Academy Award-winning musical score.
The movie will be displayed on a 22-foot inflatable screen. Moviegoers should be sure to bring a blanket or their preferred chair, snacks and drinks. All regular park rules, such as no alcohol, pets or smoking apply.
If a rain date is necessary, the movie will be held on Thursday. The decision to postpone due to weather concerns, if needed, will be posted on the Concourse Club website at www.concourseclub.org and on Facebook at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
“This year’s movie ‘Up’ was chosen in honor of the 10th anniversary of the movie’s release. It has a wide appeal across generations and is dearly beloved,” Concourse Club program Director Lisa Snell Kern said. “We’re honored to continue the tradition we began five years ago and are excited to welcome St. Luke’s University Health Network as a new sponsor this year.”
A proud member of the Palmerton community, St. Luke’s is adding locations to expand access to quality health care and elevate the region’s quality of life.
In continuing its sponsorship of the annual movies, The Concourse Club is pleased to promote entertainment in the borough park for the community’s benefit. “Our roster of members exceeds 130 dedicated and talented women, and we’re always looking for new members and new ideas,” Snell Kern said. Those interested in more information should visit the club’s website.
