A teen was flown to a hospital after he failed to stop at a posted stop sign while riding his bicycle and struck a vehicle.

Summit Hill police responded to the intersection of South Oak and Amidon streets just before 1:30 p.m. on Sunday for a report of a bicycle striking a vehicle.

Police said that the 13-year-old boy was driving his bicycle at a high rate of speed on South Oak and did not stop at the intersection.

At the same time, a Jeep, traveling along Amidon Street, stopped at the posted stop sign and then proceeded to enter the intersection.

Police said as the driver was about half way through the intersection, the teen struck the side of the vehicle.

The boy was treated at the scene by Lehighton paramedics then flown via Life Flight helicopter to a Lehigh Valley area trauma center.

Charges will not be filed against the driver of the Jeep, but are pending against the boy.
