For the first time, Northampton Community College’s Luthier (stringed instrument) program is offering an intensive one-week course to build a guitar almost from scratch.
The course, “Intensive Acoustic Guitar Build,” will meet from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Aug. 5 to 9 at the Fab Lab, Fowler Family Southside Center, 511 E. Third St., Bethlehem.
Participants will build either a Martin style 24.9 scale 000 or a 25.4 scale OM. Choose from Mahogany, East Indian Rosewood, or Flamed Maple for the back and side wood.
The class will be using ebony fingerboards and bridges, and Sitka spruce for the top with herringbone top border and soundhole rosette. Also, you can choose either tortoise shell or ivoroid binding material.
NCC’s Luthier program is in its sixth year and has gained national recognition.
There is a fee for the course. All materials are included.
