Penn’s Peak announces new shows

Penn’s Peak has announced additions to its already busy musical lineup that are sure to please fans.

Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue will take the stage on Sept. 19; The Wizards of Winter will perform on Dec. 20 and Get The Led Out is set to take over the Peak for two nights Dec. 27 and 28. All shows start at 8 p.m.

Trombone Shorty

Trombone Shorty’s new album opens with a dirge, but if you think the beloved bandleader, singer, songwriter and horn-blower born Troy Andrews came here to mourn, you’ve got it all wrong.

True to its title, this album contains multitudes of sound — from brass band blare and deep-groove funk, to bluesy beauty and hip-hop/pop swagger — and plenty of emotion anchored by stellar playing and the idea that, even in the toughest of times, as Andrews says, “Music brings unity.”

In the past four years, Andrews has performed at the White House five times; backed Macklemore and Madonna at the Grammys; played on albums by She & Him, Zac Brown Band, Dierks Bentley and Mark Ronson; opened tours for Daryl Hall & John Oates and Red Hot Chili Peppers; appeared in Foo Fighters’ Sonic Highways documentary series; voiced the iconic sound of the adult characters in “The Peanuts Movie”; inherited the esteemed annual fest-closing set at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in the tradition of Crescent City greats like the Neville Brothers and Professor Longhair; and released Trombone Shorty, a children’s book about his life that was named a Caldecott Honor Book in 2016.

Tickets for the event are on sale now at all Ticketmaster outlets, the Penn’s Peak Box Office and Roadies Restaurant and Bar.

Wizards of Winter

The Wizards of Winter was originally formed in the winter of 2009 as a way to give back to the band’s hometown community food pantry that was in dire need of assistance. What was once simply a group of friends looking to help others in need, has now turned into a musical force that crosses the nation each year.

Two of the original founders, Scott and Sharon Kelly, still perform in the group. The quality of their original music combined with its message, has attracted world-class talent from groups like The Trans-Siberian Orchestra, The Irish Tenors, Blue Oyster Cult, Rainbow, Alice Cooper Band and Broadway who now join them on stage.

Audiences ranging in age from 8 to 80 have come to make the band’s Holiday Rock Opera part of their family tradition, by coming to see it year after year.

“It truly is a Christmas rock opera,” Scott Kelly said. “We take the audience on a musical journey inside a snow globe aboard a metaphysical vehicle, the Arctic Flyer, in search of the meaning of Christmas. Some parts of the story are happy, some are melancholy; our music encompasses the vast range of feelings people experience during the holiday season.”

Get The Led Out

From the bombastic and epic, to the folky and mystical, Get The Led Out has captured the essence of the recorded music of Led Zeppelin and brought it to the concert stage.

The Philadelphia-based group consists of Paul Sinclair on lead vocals and harmonica; Paul Hammond on electric and acoustic guitars, mandolin and hertemin; Jimmy Marchiano on electric and acoustic guitars and vocals; Phil D’Agostino on bass; Adam Ferraioli on drums and percussion; and Eddie Kurek on bass and vocals.

Utilizing multi-instrumentalists at their disposal, the band re-creates the songs in all their depth and glory with the studio overdubs that Zeppelin themselves never performed.

Dubbed by the media as “The American Led Zeppelin,” Get The Led Out offers a strong focus on the early years. They also touch on the deeper cuts that were seldom, if ever heard in concert. Get The Led Out also includes a special “acoustic set” of Zep favorites.
