Marie E. Christman, a lifelong resident of Lehighton and the first community nurse of the borough, was honored Saturday night as Citizen of the Year at the annual awards dinner meeting of the Lehighton Area Chamber of Commerce.

Christman’s honor highlighted the presentation of other individual plaques, including those given to Mary R. Lindermuth, Volunteer of the Year; A. Donald Behler, Businessman of the Year; Dennis J. Serfass, Educator of the Year; and Scott Andreas and Theresa Buck, Youths of the Year.

In addition, the Times News and Call Chronicle newspapers were recognized for their service to the community.
