Local, county and state officials converged on the site of the Jim Thorpe Memorial Mausoleum today, marking the former dedication of Route 903 out of the county-seat community as Pennsylvania’s “Highway to Adventure.”
The Carbon County Tourist Promotion Agency, headed by Agnes T. McCartney, coordinated the event.
The highway’s new designation came under legislation recently passed by the General Assembly in Harrisburg in light of the many businesses along the route including those offering “adventure” activities such as horseback riding, whitewater rafting, friendly war games, mountain biking and cross-country skiing.
