U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright has announced that Palmerton Area High School student Christopher Fredericks has been accepted to the United States Military Academy Preparatory School at West Point, New York.
Cartwright nominated Fredericks to attend the academy, and he was selected to attend the prep school where he will be heading in the fall to begin his service career. Students demonstrating significant promise and ability are invited to the prep school for additional military and academic training prior to consideration for full admission to the academy.
Fredericks is a graduate of Palmerton Area High School and the son of Chris Fredericks and Jessyca Fredericks. While attending Palmerton Area High School, Fredericks was a member of the Aevidum club and a state and national qualifier twice for track and field throwing the javelin.
“Nominating students for the Unites States Academies is among the most gratifying responsibilities for a member of Congress,” Cartwright said. “These students exhibit exceptional academic achievement and perseverance to earn these nominations. Christopher is a talented and qualified young man; I commend him for his dedication and perseverance and congratulate him on his acceptance into the Military Academy Preparatory School.”
In order to attend one of the military academies, students must receive a nomination from their member of Congress.
