Once a computer is more than seven years old, being able to perform upgrades to software and hardware becomes a challenge, if not an impossibility. During a workshop meeting Wednesday, the Schuylkill County Commissioners approved spending $51,652 to purchase computer equipment for the county’s Children & Youth department.
The funds will be used to buy 40 Dell desktop PCs, 40 Microsoft office licenses, nine Microsoft tablets, three HP laser jet printers and various video adapters and video conference hardware. According to C&Y Director Kevin Lally, the upgrades are also required in order to comply with security requirements.
In other action taken during the workshop meetings, the commissioners:
Approved a reduction in the per-day cost for an inmate housing agreement with Snyder County, from $72 to $65 through the remainder of 2019.
For the Register of Wills office, approved renewing and extending a software maintenance agreement with Kofile Technologies Inc. for 24 months, ending April 30, 2021, at a cost of $8,900 per year.
Approved a change order for $6,500 for Spotts Brothers, the construction firm replacing the roof on the courthouse annex. According to county engineer Lisa Mahall, the change order is for insulation to be fastened to the roof deck using an adhesive, due to electrical conduits installed against the roof deck.
