Nesquehoning Borough Council discussed or acted on the following items during its monthly meeting on Wednesday.
• Adopted three ordinances regarding residential carbon monoxide regulations; leased/rented smoke, heat and carbon monoxide regulations; and vehicle parking.
• Approved Nesquehoning Hose Company’s request for a firetruck parade on Aug. 9 with temporary parking restrictions on Center Street, as well as Catawissa Street to Spruce Street that day. The parade is part of the fire department’s annual festival, which is Aug. 9 and 10.
• Announced that the borough will receive the street sweeper for an additional four days at no cost to the borough. Dates for the street sweeping have not yet been decided.
• Nesquehoning received an $810 grant from the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce for flags and flower boxes as part of a beautification project.
• Work on unit 2 in the sewer treatment plant is continuing. The paintwork that was done to fix the problems with the paint the first time caused additional problems. A meeting between the borough, engineer and contractors is being set up to see what will be done to rectify the problem.
• The next neighborhood watch meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Aug. 5 in the borough hall.
