Coroner ID’s Kunkletown man killed in two-vehicle crash

The identity of a Kunkletown man who died in a two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle Friday in Eldred Township has been released.

Monroe County Coroner Tom Yanac said the deceased is Jeremy Schessler, 24, who was driving a 2008 Kawasaki Ninja 650 when the crash occurred at 7:07 p.m. on Silver Springs Boulevard.

Schessler was pronounced dead at the scene by a representative of the coroner’s office.

State police at Lehighton said the crash happened when a 1998 Infiniti QX4 driven by Richard D. Abbazio, 34, of Palmerton, which was traveling south on the highway, attempted to turn left onto Borger Road, and entered the path of the motorcycle, causing the collision. Police said the driver was thrown from the motorcycle, which came to rest about 40 yards after the initial impact.

Police were also assisted at the scene by the Polk Township and Kunkletown fire departments, the Blue Ridge Hook and Ladder company and the Palmerton and West End ambulance corps.
