Coaldale UVO honors veterans

The Coaldale UVO paid tribute to fallen veterans with two services on Sunday.

The first service was at the Seek Memorial. The second service was held at Coaldale town hall. The services had the same main speaker and orators.

Jacob Boyle, a sophomore of Panther Valley High School and junior council member of the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 1070, was the main speaker and recited Logan’s General Order.

Rachelle Filer recited the Gettysburg Address, and Amanda Fegley recited “In Flanders Field.” Both attend Panther Valley High School.

Boyle reflected on his fear of public speaking, but realized he could overcome his fear when he remembers the sacrifice young veterans made in the past. If they could go to war, he could speak in front of a crowd about the importance of Memorial Day.

“Most of the soldiers who have died were only two years older than me,” Boyle said.

The Coaldale resident’s speech was based on the story of the Four Chaplains, which was published in the American Legion Magazine.

Panther Valley High School band performed patriotic selections, and members of the Panther Valley JROTC were also in attendance.
