Two people have been charged with drug counts following an incident at a Carbon County park.
Summit Hill police report on April 12 officers were on patrol at Mauch Chunk Lake park at the boat launch B area when they observed a vehicle parked in the lot. Officers knew that vehicles are not allowed to be in the boat launch area after dark unless for fishing and boating purposes.
Officers approached the vehicle and identified the driver as Thomas J. Burns, 51, of Palmerton, and passenger Angela Marie Wenzel, 40, of Summit Hill. Officers immediately detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Burns told officers he had smoked earlier as he and Wensel, who he identified as his girlfriend, were at a club in McAdoo.
A search of the vehicle revealed a small smoked roach with burned marijuana residue on the driver side floor and a small black and green glass pipe with burned marijuana residue in the cup holder. A purse on the passenger seat revealed a small plastic bag with a small amount of white crystalline substance, suspected methamphetamine. An open beer can was under the passenger seat.
Both suspects were taken into custody and transported to the police station where Wensel handed over a small amount of marijuana that she said was located in her bra in a small brown bag.
Wensel has been charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Burns has been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
