’80s karaoke party
Come and sing all your favorite ’80s songs. A karaoke party will be held from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday at the Bowmanstown Volunteer Fire Company, 259 Lime St., Bowmanstown. Prizes awarded for best dressed ’80s attire.
Teen Oreo challenge
Come test your skills in a blind Oreo cookie taste competition. Must call the library and sign up at 610-826-3424. The event will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday and is hosted by the Palmerton Library Teen Group.
Memorial pool
The Palmerton Pool will opening for the 2019 season at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Pool hours through June 14 will be 3:30 to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday; Saturday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Sunday 1 to 8 p.m. Starting June 15, weekend hours will remain the same, and weekday opening time will be noon. All times are weather permitting. Swim lessons are held for a fee with a paid season membership, for children 2-18 years of age. Please register for swim lessons at the pool office between June 3 and June 19. Lessons are currently scheduled for two weeks: June 20-July 5, Monday-Friday 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. weather permitting, 45 minutes per day. The in-season pool office phone number is 610-826-5357.
Jerusalem UCC
Jerusalem United Church of Christ, 545 Church Drive, Palmerton (Trachsville) will hold worship services at 9 and 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. Members and friends of the church who have served (active, retired or deceased) in any branch of the armed forces will be honored.
Now until May 30 (except for May 25 or May 27) items for donation to the annual flea market may be brought to the church between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Contact Beverly Waibel for additional arrangements. The flea market will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 31 and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 1. All help and donations are greatly appreciated.
Food pantry
The food pantry for Palmerton area families in need will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 2915 Fireline Road, Palmerton. The CACPAC-sponsored pantry serves households in Palmerton, Towamensing and Lower Towamensing townships, and the Palmerton Area School District including Bowmanstown.
The Palmerton Food Bank is always in need of nonperishable food items, canned goods and monetary donations. If you can help, please bring food items to any CACPAC member. Most are churches collect on a regular basis.
