Lehighton has decided to purchase a new vehicle for its police department.
On a 6-1 vote, borough council agreed to purchase a 2020 SUV from Kovatch in the amount of $46,730. Councilman Ryan Saunders was opposed.
Afterward, council, on a 6-0 vote agreed to finance the vehicle through Mauch Chunk Trust, as part of a 3-year term at 3.82 percent.
Councilwoman Lisa Perry abstained from that vote because she is employed by Mauch Chunk Trust.
Council’s decision comes after a request last month by the police department to purchase a 2019 Ford F150 in the amount of $45,687 did not garner approval.
