Palmerton man killed in Rush Twp. crash

A Palmerton man was killed in a crash Friday afternoon in a crash on Route 309 (Claremont Avenue) in Rush Township.

Township police said the incident happened at 3:30 p.m. on the Mile Hill near the village of Ginthers.

Police said Larry Wanamaker, no age given, was driving a 2001 Volkswagen Beetle in the southbound lane. According to witnesses, there was a mechanical failure that caused the car to cross over the median and travel into the northbound lanes.

Route 309 was closed for several hours. Hometown Fire Police maintained traffic control at the scene.
