Mosquito surveillance and West Nile monitoring will be conducted in West Penn Township.
Board of supervisors Chairman Tony Prudenti made the announcement at Monday morning’s meeting.
Prudenti said the township received an email from the Schuylkill Conservation District.
Surveillance in the area will likely occur a few times a month through October, he said.
“It’s good that they’re doing it,” Prudenti said. “It’s bad that they think it’s here.”
Supervisor Tim Houser said residents should try to eliminate having tires or other junk filled with water lying around, as it serves as a breeding ground.
All of their trapping equipment will be tagged Schuylkill Conservation District name and contact information.
