Olivia Stettler, a junior at Marian Catholic High School, will be attending a weekendlong master workshop in New York City with Natalie Weiss, a world renowned vocalist.

Olivia, 17, was one of only 18 people selected, through audition, to attend the workshop. Weiss’ workshops provide students with various techniques and incorporate music theory and pitch accuracy to ease fears around improvisation. Weiss guides singers with her trademarked method to break down riffs/runs from pop icons and often refers to her mission as “Pop Singing for Dummies.”

Weiss gained an international following from her performance videos and popular YouTube web series, “Breaking Down the Riffs,” which have collectively reached over 4 million views and starred Broadway stars such as Ben Platt and Lesli Margarita.

As a private vocal coach and master class teacher, she trains performers across the U.S. and throughout the world. Her career has taken her to the UK, Australia, Mexico, Canada, Brazil, Germany, Portugal and Austria, where she has taught for many institutions including the Institute for Vocal Advancement, National Association of Teachers of Singing and Vocology in Practice.

Weiss is one of the most sought-after voices among new musical theater writers and is a featured soloist on several albums. She can be heard on the original Broadway cast recording of “Dear Evan Hansen” as one of the Virtual Community Voices and on the jingles for “The Incredibles 2.”

Weiss made her Broadway debut understudying the Menonettes in “Everyday Rapture.” Other career highlights include swinging the national tour of “Les Miserables” and performing in the ensemble of the second national tour of “Wicked” (Elphaba). Most recently, she performed to sold-out audiences at her solo shows in New York, London and Hamburg.

Weiss received her BFA in musical theater from Penn State University.

Olivia has been performing in local theater since the age of 9 and has performed in almost 40 shows and has won many vocal awards over the years. She has performed in New York City at a Cabaret featuring teens from the Broadway community and was one of seven people chosen to participate in a master vocal class with Broadway/TV/movie actor Anthony Rapp, known for “Rent,” the musical, and “Dazed and Confused.”

She is under the vocal direction of Joelle Witner of Drama in Motion Studio of Performing Arts. Olivia credits her accomplishments to everything she has learned from Witner, including vocals, dancing and acting.

After high school, Olivia plans to attend college and double major in music education and musical theater. Next, she can be seen playing Hope in “Urinetown the Musical” at DM Performance Works Factory Theatre in Nuremburg May 10-12 and May 17-19.

Olivia is the daughter of Charles and Heather Stettler of Tamaqua and the granddaughter of Lionel and Kathleen Lawson of Bethany Beach, Delaware (formerly from Tamaqua) and Charles Stettler Sr., Wilkes-Barre.
