Penn Forest Township, the fastest-growing community in Carbon County, has its first chartered veterans’ organization.
American Legion Post 847, which was formally chartered on Jan. 29 by Frederick W. Wagner, Pennsylvania Department commander, accepted the charter during a ceremony held Tuesday in the Courthouse, Jim Thorpe.
Luther A. Getz, commissioners’ chairman, had the honor of presenting the official document to Francis Bayer, post commander, while officers Frank Farmer, adjutant, and John Giammanco, sergeant-at-arms, looked on, as did Wayne “Porky” Hunsicker, the county’s director of Veterans Affairs.
