A task force that aims to help the homeless in Carbon County is in the works.

On Thursday, the county commissioners briefly spoke about a meeting the board had with the Rev. Allen Hoffa, pastor of St. Joseph Parish of the Panther Valley in Summit Hill; Robert Jacobs, an area resident and candidate for commissioner who first brought the problem to light after an initiative last month to help a homeless woman find housing; and Christine LeClair, the driving force in the initiative to help Yvonne find a forever home.

The board did not wish to go into full detail, because LeClair and Hoffa would be coming to next Thursday’s commissioners meeting so the group could provide a presentation on what the task force hopes to accomplish.

“We had a good discussion,” Commissioners’ Chairman Wayne Nothstein said.

He said that the group is working to formulate a game plan on a very serious issue in the county.

The commissioners asked Jacobs, who was in attendance, for his opinion on the meeting.

“I thought it was a very productive meeting,” Jacobs said. “The goal was to get the commitment for a task force on homelessness.

“There are tons of questions we have,” he added. “We have a sense that homelessness is growing in Carbon County but don’t have the numbers.”

He added that they also need to find ways to engage the community in helping to be the solution to this problem.
