For the second time in 2019, the Schuylkill County Prison Board has fired a full-time corrections officer for the county prison. During a special meeting convened Wednesday, the board unanimously fired Kyle Jones.
The board entered into executive session shortly after the meeting started. When members returned, after about 15 minutes, the motion to fire Jones was made by Schuylkill County Sheriff Joseph G. Groody and seconded by District Attorney Michael O’Pake. After the meeting, Prison Warden Eugene Berdanier said Jones had been on the job for about a year and a half. Berdanier would not comment on the reason for the termination.
Late in January, the Prison Board fired Keith Wittig, who had been employed as a corrections officer for more than 20 years. The county prison has 45 full-time officers and 15 part-time officers.
