Local Roundup: Results from March 26

Tamaqua and Pleasant Valley both posted softball wins, while Northwestern earned a sweep in track on Tuesday.

In other action, Jim Thorpe, Palmerton and Pleasant Valley all gained tennis victories.

SOFTBALL

East Stroudsburg South-

Pleasant Valley

Pleasant Valley used an eight-run sixth inning to cruise to a 14-4 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over East Stroudsburg South.

Madison Rosenberg sparked the Bears with two doubles, a run scored and four RBIs, while Meara Hanyon contributed with a single, double, three runs and an RBI.

PV also received a triple, three runs scored and an RBI from Cameron Caffrey.

Tamaqua-Hamburg

A late-inning surge helped Tamaqua pull away for an 11-5 non-conference win over Hamburg.

Jada Schellhammer led the Blue Raiders with two doubles, a walk, two runs scored and two RBIs, while Jane Kupchinsky recorded a single, double and a run.

Tamaqua, which erased a deficit with a five-run fifth inning, also received two singles, a run, and an RBI from Maxine Beers. Alexsya Thomas added two singles and a run.

BASEBALL

Tamaqua-Hamburg

Hamburg scored the final four runs of the game to help rally for a 7-4 non-league victory over Tamaqua.

Michael Bonetsky had two hits, one a double, scored two runs and knocked in a pair for the Blue Raiders, who held leads of 2-1 and 4-3.

Tamaqua also received two hits, two runs and two stolen bases from Adam Rex, while Nate Boyle added two hits and an RBI.

Marian-Kutztown

A three-run fourth inning proved to be the difference in Kutztown’s 3-2 non-conference victory over Marian.

The Colts rallied with a run in the top of the seventh but left the tying run on second to fall short.

Brandon Cann paced Marian with two singles and a run scored, while Dakota Streisel added a double and an RBI. Hunter Fristick delivered a pinch-hit RBI double.

Northern Lehigh

Northwestern recorded a sweep in a Colonial League tri-meet.

The Northern Lehigh girls went 1-1, while the boys were 0-2.

The Bulldogs’ Zachary Moyer won three events (110 hurdles, triple jump, high jump), while Nolehi’s Kristen Guelcher recorded two individual wins (100, 200).

For the Tigers, Madeline Consuelos (800, 1600), Justin Rodda (100, long jump) and Michael Marrazzo (discus, javelin) all captured two firsts.

Jim Thorpe recorded its first win of the season with a 4-1 victory over Pottsville.

The Olympians’ Raymond O’Neil and Emilio Mercado both posted singles victories.

Palmerton took all three singles matches to help claim a 4-1 non-conference victory over Lehighton.

Nate Andress, Erica Messics and Lucas Christman all won in straight sets for the Blue Bombers. The trio only dropped five games during the match.

Pleasant Valley won all four doubles matches to help earn a 6-1 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over Whitehall.

The Bears also received straight-set singles wins from Josh Schaffner and John Berry.

Freedom-Pleasant Valley

Freedom used a strong second half to edge Pleasant Valley, 16-15.

After trailing 10-8, the Patriots outscored the hosts 8-5 in the second half to pull out the win.

Brielle McInaw led the Bears with six goals and two assists, while Jules Lopez added five goals.

Katie Flynn paced Freedom with eight goals.

PV keeper Danni Reino finished with 10 saves.
