Citing the widespread use of road materials, a West Penn Township official has asked motorists to ease up on the gas pedal.
Supervisor Tim Houser cautioned drivers to be careful and slow down while driving, especially when the weather is bad.
Houser noted that the township’s road department has “eaten through 900 tons of salt,” and suggested drivers shouldn’t be looking to go 55 miles per hour.
“I urge the general public to drive a little slower on the roads,” Houser said. “We don’t have the resources PennDOT has.”
While the road department isn’t in bad shape for salt, he said the township has to take necessary steps to make sure its reserve covers it the rest of the winter season.
