Mahoning Valley Country Club to close

Mahoning Valley Country Club in Lehighton will be closing its doors before the upcoming 2019 golf season.

The ownership group made the announcement on its website, http://www.mahoningvalleycc.com, on Monday.

After nine years of dedicated operating of Mahoning Valley Country Club, the ownership group has made a difficult decision to close the club for the upcoming season,” the announcement read. “All membership dollars spent for the 2019 season will be fully reimbursed or transferred as credits to Great Bear Golf Club based on the customers desire.”

General Manager Bill Smith said he would be working through the month of March to answer any transitional questions.

“The time spent as the club’s general manager has been rewarding and appreciate my interactions with all of you,” Smith said.

Smith said he is available to show the property to any prospective buyers.

“We appreciate all our customers and members financial and social support of the club over the years,” Smith said.

Founded in 1927, Mahoning Valley was private for almost 80 years before becoming a public course.

According to property records, Bethlehem-based Lehigh Gas Corporation bought the club from a bank in 2010.
