CCTI implements Safe2Say Something alert system
On Feb. 7, Ali Cannon from Sandy Hook Promise visited CCTI to train students and staff on the recently initiated Safe2Say Something alert system. Safe2Say Something is an anonymous reporting system students and adults can use to easily and confidentially report safety concerns to help prevent violence and tragedies.
People can submit an anonymous tip 24/7 through the website, app or by phone, and a crisis center reviews and sends all submissions to law enforcement or school administration for intervention. The Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office and lawmakers initiated the system in Pennsylvania.
According to their website, Say Something is a youth violence prevention program from Sandy Hook Promise, a national, nonprofit organization led by several family members whose loved ones were killed in the tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook School on Dec. 14, 2012.
Sandy Hook Promise is focused on preventing gun violence (and other forms of violence and victimization) before it happens by attracting, educating and mobilizing youth and adults to identify, intervene and get help for people who may be at risk of hurting themselves or others. Sandy Hook Promise has educated millions of youth and adults with its Know the Signs violence prevention programs resulting in the intervention and prevention of multiple school shootings, suicides, gun and other violent threats.
Additionally, the group’s prevention programs have helped reduce bullying and get hundreds of youths mental health and wellness assistance. See more at https://www.saysomething.net.
Cannon presented a lively, entertaining and informative discussion designed to educate all on the alert system while encouraging students to speak out when they or others may be in harm’s way or in need of emotional support. The students freely participated in the discussions and received information on how to access the system and submit tips. CCTI has now fully implemented the system.
