READING (AP) — An 18-year-old charged in juvenile court with vehicular homicide in an eastern Pennsylvania crash that killed two high school students has been ordered to a juvenile detention facility.
The Reading Eagle reports that Monday’s decision came at a disposition hearing in Berks County on the charges against the defendant, who was 17 at the time of the crash.
Authorities said a car went out of control in Upper Tulpehocken Township in December 2017, hit a tree and split in half before landing in a marshy meadow, killing Sean Orner and Shannon Althouse. Both 18-year-olds were students at Tulpehocken High School.
The defendant read a written apology apologizing to everyone dealing with the loss. He said the victims “meant the world to me and I would never intentionally hurt them.”
