Tamaqua grad Rother earns Patriot League honors

It didn’t take Casey Rother long to find his sweet spot.

The Tamaqua graduate and Lehigh freshman was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week last Tuesday.

Rother made a big impact in his first appearance as a member of the Mountain Hawks in a season-opening three-game series against Duke, finishing the weekend hitting .500 (4-for-8) with a run scored and an RBI. He went 3-for-4 with an RBI single in Lehigh’s loss to the Blue Devils on Sunday.

“Casey did a tremendous job competing against some outstanding pitching,” said head coach Sean Leary. “We are excited to see him build off this weekend.”

Rother nabbed the first weekly award of the season for the Mountain Hawks. He is also the first Rookie of the Week since Peter Woltersdorf won the award three times last season, and Quinn McKenna was honored once.

The Mountain Hawks posted their first two victories of the season this past weekend over Mount St. Mary’s.

Rother is second on the team with a .350 batting average (20 at-bats), tied for second with seven hits, and ranks fourth with a .731 OPS.
