2019 primary election: Sverchek announces candidacy for Carbon County controller

Mark Sverchek of Lehighton has announced his Republican candidacy for Carbon County controller. Sverchek is an elected committee person for Lehighton. He has been the owner of the Mark A. Sverchek Insurance and Financial Service Agency in Summit Hill for close to 20 years and has recently formed a partnership with Jeff Spotts of Schuylkill County to form the Spotts-Sverchek Insurance Agency to offer more choices to his clients.

Sverchek was previously employed by numerous banks in Carbon and Schuylkill counties in various management positions, lastly as vice president, branch manager for the Lehighton location of Keystone Financial. Sverchek started his career in the Carbon County Treasurer’s office with his last position being acting treasurer.

Sverchek holds an MBA degree in finance from DeSales University and a management degree from Bloomsburg University. He has completed numerous banking schools, insurance courses and has had his insurance licenses for more than 20 years, a real estate license for more than 30 years and formerly, a securities license for 15 years.

Born and raised in Lansford, he and his wife, the former Anne Corkill of Jim Thorpe, are lifelong residents of Carbon County. They have three grown children and two German shepherds. They are members of SS. Peter and Paul Church, Lehighton.

Sverchek is a strong believer in supporting your local community and getting involved to make a positive difference. His volunteer efforts include Summit Hill Lions Club, Summit Hill Memorial Day parade committee, board member and past president of Lansford Alive, member F&AM Carbon Lodge, former board member of United Way of Carbon County, board member and founding board member of the Carbon Chamber and Economic Development Corp., past chairman and current board member of the Carbon County Industrial Development Authority, board member at St. Luke’s Miners Campus, member of the President’s council for DeSales University and board member and past president of the Lehigh Valley chapter of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors.

Sverchek believes his work experience, education and community service make him an excellent candidate to be an effective controller to serve the residents of Carbon County with integrity and high ethical standards.
