The theft of three ground wires from a PPL substation located along Little Gap Road in Lower Towamensing Township is being investigated by state police at the Lehighton barracks.

Police labeled the incident as a criminal mischief case with damages exceeding $1,000.

It happened between midnight Feb. 1 and 11:45 a.m. Feb. 15. Police said someone cut a chain-link fence to gain access to the substation and cut and removed the three ground wires before fleeing in an unknown direction.
