A 21-year-old man died Sunday night in a skiing accident at Blue Mountain Ski Area. This is the second death at the resort this season.
Tricia Matsko, director of marketing and sales at Blue Mountain Resort in Palmerton, said the man died at about 6 p.m.
Matsko said the man, whose identity was unknown as of press time, went off a jump on the Yeti Trail that resulted in his death.
She said Yeti is a beginner trail, and added that no one else was injured as a result of the incident.
Matsko said the man was not wearing a helmet. He was transported to St. Luke’s Palmerton Campus, where he later died.
“I don’t know the specifics of what he was doing on the jump,” Matsko said.
Matsko said the incident remains under investigation.
“We’re completely saddened by this news,” she said. “It’s a terrible accident; our prayers go out to the family.”
On Jan. 1, Connor Golembiewski, 17, of Flemington, New Jersey fell off a ski lift.
Contacted today, Carbon County Coroner Robert Miller said an autopsy was scheduled for this morning.
The resort was also the site of two fatal crashes last year.
On March 15, 2018, 20-year-old Euna Shin of Piscataway, New Jersey, died from head injuries after a fall while snowboarding.
Grygoriy Sologub, 53, of Marcus Hook, outside of Philadelphia, died Jan. 21, 2018, from blunt-force trauma to the head and neck after another skier ran into him on a slope.
