EASTON – Notre Dame of Green Pond senior Chris Omick shined on Saturday night.

Crusaders head coach Pat Boyle wasn’t sure if Omick was going to play in the 62-45 Colonial League quarterfinal win over Northern Lehigh.

Not only did Omick play, but he turned in a dominating performance.

“He’s been really sick,” Boyle said of Omick. “We weren’t sure if he was going to be able to play tonight. We were just happy he was able ... to gut it out. He had 21 points, 11 rebounds and (played) great help defense. I couldn’t be more proud of him.”

Northern Lehigh struggled to make baskets, as the scoring duo of Preston Kemery and Brandon Hess were held to a combined 21 points.

“We didn’t make shots, and that hurt,” Bulldogs head coach Jeff Miller said. “When we only get a combined 21 points out of our top two offensive players, we’re going to struggle.

“We struggled to score at times, and Notre Dame’s length really hurt us. They controlled and really hurt us with offensive rebounding. At our offensive end, it was one shot and done.”

The Bulldogs only made 17 field goals on the night.

Northern Lehigh never had the lead in this one, although it did tie the score at 13-13 just past halfway mark in the first quarter. From that point on, Notre Dame slowly pulled away.

“It’s tough because we can’t duplicate their length in practice, no matter how hard we try,” Miller said. “We don’t have any 6-4 or 6-5 kids on our roster, so we can’t duplicate that in practice.

“I think we were prepared, we just didn’t make shots.”

The Crusaders placed a trio of players in double figures. In addition to Omick’s 21 points, Fillipo Baldo had 12 and Jaden Cunningham added 10.

Hess tallied 13 points to lead Northern Lehigh.

The Bulldogs and Crusaders faced each other two-and-a-half weeks ago, with the Crusaders pulling out a 75-58 victory.

“I think our guys learned some things a couple weeks ago as to what we worked on,” Boyle said about the game. “It’s one of those games where we do have a size advantage, so we were able to take advantage on the offensive boards. We had 15 offensive rebounds, which led to some easy putbacks even on a night where we didn’t shoot the ball well at all.”

UP NEXT ... The Crusaders play No. 2 seed Southern Lehigh at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Catasauqua in the Colonial League semifinal.

“We’re excited. They’re an outstanding team,” Boyle added. “We’re looking forward to it.”

MILLER ON DEFENSE … “We’ve been playing 3-2 zone all year long, different aspects of our 3-2. I think we did that. I don’t think defensively we did that bad of a job. It came down to a lot at the offensive end where we just couldn’t make baskets. If we make baskets, it’s certainly a different game.”
