Summit Hill man cited for assault

A Summit Hill man has been charged with simple assault and related counts stemming from an incident that occurred on Feb. 3.

Borough police charged Michael Gillen, 48, of the 200 block of East Richards Avenue, with counts of harassment and disorderly conduct in addition to the assault charge.

Police said a woman came to the police station to report she had been assaulted by Gillen at his residence. She complained of back and chest pain and requested medical attention. Police said medical personnel were dispatched to the station.

The woman told officers that Gillen punched her over and over again in the head and chest and struck her in the back causing injury. She also said that while attempting to leave the residence, Gillen pushed her down the porch steps causing more injury to her lower back and right shin. She said after she fell down the steps, Gillen grabbed her and threw her onto the ground again.

The woman provided a written statement to police and officers took photos of the her injuries. She was then transported to St. Luke’s Miners Memorial Hospital in Coaldale.

Police went to Gillen’s residence and took him into custody without incident. He was taken to the station where he agreed to given a statement after being read his rights. He denied any physical contact with the victim and alleged that she suffers from mental issues.
