Crashes investigated by state police at Lehighton

State police at Lehighton reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 12:26 p.m. on Jan. 29 along Deer Lane in Towamensing Township, Carbon County. A 17-year-old girl from Bowmanstown was operating a 2001 Ford Explorer and negotiating a curve when she lost control. The Ford left the road and struck a tree. After impact the Ford continued to spin in a southwest direction coming to final rest on the roadway. The teen was not injured but the Ford sustained heavy damages and had to be towed, troopers said.

• Another one-vehicle crash was reported at 3:51 p.m. on Jan. 30 along Blue Mountain Drive in Lower Towamensing Township, Carbon County. Jonathan A. Eversley, 27, of Hollis, New York, was driving a 2009 Nissan Altima when he crashed on the slushy roadway. Eversley was not injured but the Nissan had to be towed. He was cited for driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed.

• A one-vehicle crash occurred around 6 a.m. on Jan. 31 also along Blue Mountain Drive. Melvin L. Morris, 68, of Wind Gap, was driving a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan northbound at a speed too fast for conditions when he lost control. The Dodge left the road and struck a PPL utility pole where it came to rest. Both Morris and his passenger, Keith R. Strohl, 48, of Danielsville, were injured. Morris was transported by Lehighton Ambulance to Lehigh Valley-Cedar Crest. Strohl was transported via Northampton EMS. The extent of injuries is unknown. Morris was cited for driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed.

• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 7:39 a.m. Jan. 31 along Route 248 in Lower Towamensing Township. Troopers said Andrew J. Wenrich, 24, of Lehighton, was operating a 2011 Subaru Forester eastbound in the left lane while Donald J. Ransel, 75, of Albrightsville, driving a 2014 Jeep Cherokee, was stopped in the right lane due to another vehicle that was disabled and partially in the right lane of travel. Wenrich attempted to clear his windshield due to visibility problems, and when cleared, a truck stopped abruptly in front of him. He attempted to slow down and moved into the right lane to avoid a collision, but did not observe Ransel stopped in that lane and struck the rear end of the Jeep. Both Wenrich and Ransel sustained minor injuries and were taken to St. Luke’s Hospital Gnaden Huetten Campus in Lehighton. Both vehicles had to be towed. Wenrich was cited for the crash.
