Leaders leading leaders.
At least that’s the idea behind the first organizational meeting of the Carbon County Alzheimer’s Association.
The meeting will be held at 6:30 tonight at Jacob’s United Church of Christ, 138 Franklin St., Weissport.
Jeff Elder, who along with his wife, Sharon, serve as co-chairs for the association, explained the significance of the meeting.
“Alzheimer’s is a terrible disease,” Jeff Elder said. “It affects the person who has it, devastates the family, and (results in the) devastation of families’ finances.”
Elder noted this will be the first meeting of the fellowship, and aims to inform those who attend what’s involved for the future of Alzheimer’s in the county.
“It’s for the awareness of the disease; everybody seems to know somebody,” he said. “The goal for the year is to raise money for research for the cure, and to get awareness for all areas of Carbon.”
Elder said “The Long Goodbye” 2019 Walk To End Alzheimer’s will be held Sept. 21 in Historic Downtown Weissport.
Held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide, the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.
