Palmerton Area Library to host 13th annual art show

If you’re a fan of local art, good food and even better company, plan to spend Sunday afternoon at the Palmerton Area Library.

On Jan. 27, the library will host its 13th annual Art Show and Lunch, sponsored by Friends of the Palmerton Library, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting and fundraising for library services. The library will display more than 90 pieces of artwork from artists all over the area.

“We originally started it just because it seems like there’s a lot of artists and artistic talent and interest in the town of Palmerton,” Diane Danielson, library director, said. “There’s just always been sort of an artist colony here.”

“We wanted like a venue to be able to showcase this, and as it grew, we started getting more and more people from Jim Thorpe, Saylorsburg, Slatington, Walnutport, even Allentown,” she added.

Some of the pieces presented Sunday will be available for purchase, and the library will receive 20 percent of the proceeds of each sale.

Ten paintings in particular, which are owned by the Palmerton Area Library, will be available for purchase, but with a twist.

“Separately from the show, we’re going to have a silent auction on those paintings,” Danielson said. Works by local artists Mary Kocher and Jeanne Stemler are among some that will be available for bid.

Over the years, the Palmerton Area Library’s Art Show and Lunch has grown, attracting artisans and art lovers from Carbon County and beyond. And that’s exactly what stands out to Danielson about the library’s annual display.

“It’s kind of interesting to see at the show the different artists can get together and talk to each other and kind of form a little community,” Danielson said. “It’s nice to see them have a place where they can get together and talk to each other.”

The show begins at noon and goes until 3 p.m. Tickets cost $7, which includes lunch.
