A look back: Jan. 15, 1986

In a sincere effort to persuade Mack Trucks Inc. to remain in this general area of Pennsylvania, John J. Kovatch Jr. and Joseph J. Kovatch have offered the company free of charge up to 200 acres of industrial property located in the Hauto Valley area of Nesquehoning.

“Sonny” Kovatch noted Mack was looking for a place to relocate within 50 miles of Allentown if it was going to stay in Pennsylvania. He said the site he and his brother offered Mack is only 35 miles north of Allentown and would be well-suited for a production facility.

The Kovatches cited rail service, ample water supply and proximity to major transportation arteries such as interstates 80 and 81 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike as reasons why the land offer is attractive and enticing.
