The body found on Route 443 in Mahoning Township Wednesday morning has been identified as a black homeless woman, originally from New Jersey.

Carbon County Coroner Bob Miller said the woman, who was found lying face down, was originally thought to be a man.

He said her death does not appear to be suspicious. Her identity is being withheld pending next of kin.

Mahoning Police are handling the investigation.
