An 81-year-old Lower Towamensing Township man died hours after he was struck by a vehicle in Palmerton, the Lehigh County coroner said.
Clair Fatzinger was pronounced dead at 9 p.m. Wednesday at St. Luke’s Hospital, Fountain Hill, Coroner Scott Grim said.
An autopsy was performed on Thursday and the cause of death was attributed to multiple blunt force trauma.
The manner of death was ruled accidental, Grim said.
Fatzinger was hit by a vehicle at 6:59 a.m. Wednesday in front of 260 Delaware Ave.
Palmerton police said Fatzinger was crossing Delaware Avenue near Spillane’s Fit when he was struck by an eastbound car.
Police were assisted by state police crash reconstruction and forensic service units.
The Lehigh County Coroner’s Office and the Palmerton Police Department are conducting the investigation.
On Thursday, police asked that any witnesses who may have seen the incident to contact their department.
“We are attempting to locate any possible witnesses to the pedestrian accident yesterday morning,” the department said on its Facebook page. “The accident occurred just before 7 a.m. on a weekday in heavy rush hour traffic, yet thus far only one witness has stepped forward. Anyone who was passing through the 200 block of Delaware Avenue just before 7 a.m. is urged to contact us as soon as possible.”
