Bowmanstown borough council member Rob Moyer, chairman of the Budget and Finance Committee, last week asked that an ordinance be passed fixing the tax rate for the 2019 year.
“Taxes are not going up,” he said. The ordinance just fixes the rate in place.
He also asked the council if they would like to raise the Treasurer Bonds to $1 million or keep them at $500,000. The council chose to keep them at $500,000 and approved the ordinance fixing the tax rate.
In other business, Council President Kara Scott suggested that the borough pursue having the municipal building placed on the National Register of Historic Places. This would allow the borough to apply for grants that could aid in the upkeep of the building.
Moyer said the grants are small, about $2,000, and he didn’t think it was worth it.
“(The building) is a matter of pride in the community,” Scott said.
The motion to pursue the register was passed.
