Prothonotary’s report
A total of case 693 were started in October in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of cases is as follows:
Civil actions, 20; custody complaints, 19; complaints to modify custody, 23; district justice appeals, 3; divorce complaints, 14; complaints in ejectment, 3; license appeals, 3; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 22; name change petition, 1; protection from abuse petitions, 36; protection from abuse of sexually violent individual petition, 1; quiet title actions, 2; replevin complaint, 1; tax sale, 1; court appointment, 1; judgments, 497; miscellaneous cases, 2; stipulations/waivers of liens, 5; and writs of executions, 39. The office also processed 33 applications for U.S. passport and rendered assistance to the public in the processing of 15 passport renewal applications.
Behrens’ financial report for October shows $54,856.18 was generated as follows: prothonotary’s fees, $41,165.20; interest income, $3.16; custody/divorce fees, $1,700; PFA Surcharge, Sheriff; $50; PFA Surcharge, Courts, $50; data processing fees, $11,263.32; stenographer fees, $624.50; and remote access fees, $900.
The prothonotary also remitted $4,202.23 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $57.60 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996. Another $3,554.89 was deposited in the Prothonotary’s Automation Fund for future use in automating the office.
