A public reading of Bethlehem-born poet Hilda Doolittle will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Bethlehem City Hall, Rotunda Building, 10 E. Church St. in Bethlehem.
This event will kick off a 12-month long public exploration of the life and work of Doolittle, known as H.D., with a rich community reading of her work.
This reading features a varied cast of community readers including City of Bethlehem officials, Lehigh University and Moravian College faculty, area poets and representatives from a host of community organizations.
This public reading is the first event in an exciting yearlong Finding H.D. program series, a wide array of book talks, tours and projects presented by local cultural organizations.
The Finding H.D. series is a partnership among the Lehigh University English Department, the Bethlehem Area Public Library, Mock Turtle Marionette Theater and Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center.
The series will culminate in fall 2019 with the hanging of a newly commissioned portrait of H.D. in the Bethlehem library’s lobby and the premiere of a multimedia production by Mock Turtle Marionette Theater celebrating the poet’s work and life at Touchstone Theatre.
Admission is free.
