The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention – Greater Lehigh Valley Chapter will observe AFSP’s International Survivors of Suicide Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg at 2545 Schoenersville Road in Bethlehem.
This is the one day of the year when survivors of suicide loss gather throughout the world for a special program to find comfort and gain understanding as they share stories of healing and hope.
The event is free. Registration and a light breakfast will begin at 10 a.m. At 10:30 a.m., participants will watch a film produced by AFSP that features a diverse group of survivors of suicide loss.
Following the film, there will be small discussion groups, organized for people who have lost a parent, spouse, child or other loved one to suicide.
For those who are interested, there will be a small plant activity as a way to remember loved ones. Participants will be able to watch the plants grow at home. People can also bring a photo of their loved ones to place on a memorial table. There will be a closing ceremony of memory table presentations.
