111th Northern Lehigh Halloween parade set for Saturday
The 111th Northern Lehigh Halloween Parade will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday. The rain date is 6 p.m. Sunday.
Sponsored by the Northern Lehigh Events Committee, the theme of this year’s parade is Witches and Wizards, according to Tiffany Rehrig-Schaeffer, parade chairwoman.
“I’ve had a chance to look at the registration forms, and it’s interesting how no two groups interpret the theme the same way,” Rehrig-Schaeffer said. “You can expect to see some flying monkeys, Harry Potter, and the Sanderson Sisters, just to name a few entries.”
Rehrig-Schaeffer said the parade will begin at South and Main streets in Slatington, and will travel Main Street, Slatington, into Walnutport, where it will turn onto Lincoln Avenue and disband at the ball field in Walnutport.
“We are very excited that the bridge was completed ahead of schedule, and that this year’s parade can run its regular route,” she said.
Rehrig-Schaeffer said spectators can expect to be entertained by the various floats.
“The event committee’s goal is, as always, to present a parade that the entire Northern Lehigh community comes out to enjoy,” she said. “We want it to be an annual event that both participants and spectators alike look forward to.”
Rehrig-Schaeffer said that amid all the fun, safety remains at the forefront of the event committee’s wish list.
“We understand that our younger spectators can get excited about the floats and the candy,” she said. “So we ask that parents please, to keep everyone safe by not allowing children to run into the road for any stray pieces of candy.”
Rehrig-Schaeffer said there is a chance for rain this weekend.
“If we feel the need to postpone the parade until the rain date on Sunday, an announcement will be made by noon on Saturday,” she said. “We will post the announcement on the Northern Lehigh Events Committee Facebook page, and we will also notify participants directly. Please think dry, sunny thoughts.”
