Asimina triloba, also known as the pawpaw, papaw, paw paw, paw-paw, common pawpaw, Quaker delight or hillbilly mango, is a small deciduous tree native to the eastern United States and Canada, producing a large, yellowish-green to brown fruit.
With leaves and branches that deer avoid, and fruit that is loved by all, the pawpaw is a fascinating native tree. It’s the only local member of a large, mainly tropical plant family and produces the largest edible fruit native to North America. It will grow locally. Learn more and sample the fruit at noon Oct. 27 at Schoolhouse Central, Route 534 in Albrightsville (next to the Albrightsville Fire Company).
Trees will be available for sale.
