Lehighton area fire companies to present community fire prevention event

The Lehighton area fire departments have planned a combined community fire prevention to be held on Saturday.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. there will be both static displays, and well as life demonstrations, at the Lehighton Area Middle School, according to Joe Flickinger, Lehighton borough emergency management coordinator.

“With the creation of the Lehighton Elementary Center, the five volunteer fire departments located within the Lehighton Area School District (Lehighton, Franklin Township, Mahoning Valley, East Penn Township, and Parryville) decided to join forces and have one fire prevention event for the area,” Flickinger said. “We all work closely on emergency scenes, so we also want to work closely in regard to fire prevention and life safety education for all our communities.”

Flickinger said that throughout the day, there will be two vehicle rescue demonstrations, an arson dog demonstration, as well as a stove top fire demonstration.

Franklin Twp Fire Co. will also have its fire safety trailer, Mahoning Valley Fire Co. will have its fire extinguisher simulator, as well as a bounce house from the Lansford Fire Department.

Other emergency service organizations that plan to attend besides the five volunteer fire companies include the Lehighton Ambulance, Lehighton Police Department, Mahoning Valley Ambulance, Carbon County Communications Center, L&L Fire Company and the American Red Cross.

Along with visitors learning vital lifesaving information, they will also have the opportunity to sign up for free smoke alarm installations.
