LOCAL ROUNDUP: Results from Oct. 3

Northwestern, Pleasant Valley and Jim Thorpe all posted decisive boys soccer victories on Wednesday.

BOYS SOCCER

No. Lehigh-Northwestern

Northwestern came out on top with an 11-1 Colonial League win over Northern Lehigh.

The Tigers’ duo of Caleb Danner and Jacob Sacco both finished with three goals and an assist. Sam Seyfried chipped in with two goals and four assists; Luke Bryan added two goals; and Luke Taylor finished with a goal and two assists.

Notre Dame GP-Palmerton

Notre Dame of Green Pond defeated Palmerton for a 6-0 Colonial League victory.

Ben Gormley led the Crusaders with two goals.

Bombers’ keeper Bryce Yacone finished with 18 saves.

Tamaqua-Pine Grove

Tamaqua and Pine Grove finished in a 1-1 Schuylkill League tie after double overtime.

Jacob Rudy posted the Blue Raiders’ score in the second half.

Blue Raiders’ goalie Luke Verta finished with nine saves.

ES North-Pleasant Valley

Pleasant Valley rolled to a 5-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over East Stroudsburg North.

Matt Erhardt paced the Bears with two goals. Zion Moore chipped in with a goal and three assists; Mirza Sabovic and Connor Covart contributed the other PV goals. Covart also was credited with an assist.

Bears’ goalie Chris Price recorded four saves to record the shutout victory.

Jim Thorpe-No. Schuylkill

Alex Putt’s hat trick helped Jim Thorpe run away with a 6-0 Schuylkill League victory over North Schuylkill.

The Olympians’ duo of Chris Condly and Leandro Ramirez both added single scores. JT keeper Kinglsey Ehling finished with four saves. He also scored a goal in addition to posting the shutout win.

Thor Muth was credited with three assists for the Olympians, while Jacob Morris and Andrea Mazella recorded single assists.

CROSS COUNTRY

Jim Thorpe, Tamaqua,

Pottsville at Sch. Haven

The Jim Thorpe boys and the Tamaqua girls both ran away with sweeps in a Schuylkill League meet at Schuylkill Haven.

The Blue Raider boys finished 2-1 on the day, while the Lady Olympians went 1-2.

Tamaqua’s Frances Kabana won the girls’ meet, while the Olympians’ Sam Hydro took home the first-place finish in the boys’ meet.

Irene Acker posted the Olympians’ best 11th-place finish in the girls’ meet, while the Blue Raiders’ Brandon Fogarty was right behind Hydro in second place.

The Northwestern girls recorded a Colonial League sweep on their home course.

Northern Lehigh, Northwestern and Palmerton boys’ squads all finished 2-1 on the day.

The Bulldogs’ Reagan Pender and the Tigers’ Madeline Consuelos finished 1-2 in the girls’ meet, while Lily Bruer recorded a Bombers’ best in 33rd.

The Bombers’ Jake Martinez grabbed a third-place finish, while the Tigers’ RJ Zach earned a top 10 finish with a spot in seventh place. Preston Kemery finished with a Bulldogs’ best 14th place.

FIELD HOCKEY

Northwestern-Saucon Valley

Saucon Valley came out on top with a 3-2 Colonial League victory over Northwestern.

Syndey Derr and Reagan Hernandez posted the Tigers’ goals.

The Tigers’ Alena Smargiassi (one save) and Taylor Page (four saves) split time between the posts.

Palmerton-Wilson

Wilson knocked off Palmerton for a 3-2 Colonial League overtime win.

Anna Recker scored both Bombers’ goals.

Dieruff-Pleasant Valley

Three second-half goals sparked Pleasant Valley to a 3-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Dieruff.

Viktoriya Georgieva, Lexi Thomas and Lexi Neri all posted goals for the Bears, while teammates Trisha Dominick and Arianna Mulligan added assists.

The Bears’ keeper Emma Strohl recorded one save to post the shutout.

GIRLS SOCCER

North Schuylkill-Lehighton

Three second-half goals lifted North Schuylkill to a 3-2 Schuylkill League victory over Lehighton.

Abagail Meckes and Brenna Long recorded the Indians’ goals, while Amya Quinones contributed an assist.

Northern Lehigh-Northwestern

Maggie Motolese’s four goals highlighted Northwestern’s 9-0 Colonial League win over Northern Lehigh.

Sara Hathaway added two goals and an assist for the Tigers, while Kelsey Gillette followed with two assists and a goal. The Tigers’ duo of Alex Hallingstad and Kayla Bardonner joined in with scores, while Jenna Lowthert, Jaymi Smith and Bailey Groff all recorded assists.

Palmerton-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe blanked Palmerton for a 3-0 non-league win.

Kayla Renode led the Olympians with two goals, while Lydia Wallace added a goal and an assist. Eve Morris, Kylee Dulski, and Amber Nace were also credited with assists.

Jim Thorpe’s Kate Boss recorded eight saves to pick up the shutout.

GIRLS TENNIS

Pleasant Valley-ES North

Pleasant Valley blanked East Stroudsburg North for a 6-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory.

The Bears’ trio of Alyssa Wagner, Riley Wagner, and Rebecca Makrides swept singles’ play.

Brandy Montemuro led the Olympians with eight kills, seven aces, seven assists, and six digs. Kelsey Carroll (seven assists, six aces and five kills);

Abbey McGinley (12 digs), Autumn Snyder (six kills) and Katie Demarco (four digs) also contributed to the JT win.

Pleasant Valley-Easton

Pleasant Valley dropped a 26-24, 25-14, 25-23 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference decision to Easton.

Cameron Caffrey led the Bears with 12 digs, nine assists and three kills. Also playing well were Desi Powell (11 kills, five digs); Ari Weaver (six digs, two kills); Andrea Janak (four assists); and Desi Beade (five digs, two kills).

JR HIGH BASKETBALL

7TH GRADE

North Schuylkill-Weatherly

North Schuylkill defeated Weatherly 44-23.

Bethany Houser had 17 points to lead Weatherly.

Tamaqua-Nativity

Nativity defeated Tamaqua, 45-23.

Lorelei Plasha had 11 points and Carly Minchhoff added six for the Raiders.

8TH GRADE

North Schuylkill defeated Weatherly 44-17.

Jackie Duth had eight points for the Wreckers, and Ashley Pleban chipped in five.

Weatherly-Mahanoy Area

Weatherly (5-2) topped Mahanoy Area, 32-1.

Ashley Pleban, Emma Kane, Isabella Maiello, and Abigail Paisley all had six points for the Wreckers.
