A tornado watch is in effect for 52 of the 67 counties in Pennsylvania, including the entire Times News area.
National Weather Service announced the tornado watch at 3 p.m.
According to Accuweather, the weather will seem more like mid-summer through the end of the week.
Accuweather wrote: “Into Tuesday evening, rounds of thunderstorms across Ohio, Pennsylvania, southern New York, northern New Jersey and western Connecticut can briefly become severe at the local level with isolated damaging winds and flash flooding. The risk includes a small number of tornadoes.
A tornado strike on a nursing home in Crawford County, Pennsylvania, was confirmed by emergency managers during Tuesday afternoon.
The storms will interrupt anyone taking advantage of the warmth by tackling outdoor projects, field work and exercise, according to AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Kristina Pydynowski.
Widespread flash flooding is not anticipated. But, the rain can further soak fields and delay the harvest for farmers, Pydynowski warned. Downpours can lead to slower travel.
During the remainder of the week and through the weekend, cold fronts dipping in from Canada will struggle to reach through New York and Connecticut, allowing areas south of there to remain entrenched in warmer, drier conditions.
As a result, residents of New England will continue to experience seasonable weather into next week, while autumn struggles to take hold in the mid-Atlantic. The calm conditions will promote periods of valley fog in the morning, perhaps slowing the morning commute.
Overall warmth is forecast to hold on over much of the southern and eastern part of the nation into the middle of October.”
