Mikovich has big week for Wilkes
Jamey Mikovich tied a Wilkes University record for kills in a match and was named MAC Freedom Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the second time this season.
On Saturday against Rutgers-Camden, Mikovich had 29 kills in a 3-1 Wilkes victory. Her big day at the net tied Wendy O’Connor’s school record. Mikovich also had 24 digs in the match.
That effort was part of a huge day for Mikovich, who earlier that afternoon had 13 kills, 13 digs and a career-high five service aces in a 3-0 victory over Brooklyn College.
Mikovich, a Panther Valley High School graduate, also had two other stellar performances during the week, which combined with Saturday’s effort, earned her the Player of the Week award.
In a loss to FDU-Florham, she had 20 kills and seven digs. She followed that up with a 19-kill, 15-dig performance in a victory over Clarks Summit.
Mikovich, a junior, leads the Colonels with 197 kills so far this season.She is also second on the team with 185 digs.
Wilkes is now 11-4 on the season.
